Description and schedule of services

4th of November: bespoke day trip from Estepona to Jerez and Cadiz

9:30am: meet your personal driver at your accommodation and be transferred in a modern and comfortable Mercedes vehicle to Jerez de la Frontera.

11am: upon arrival to Jerez de la Frontera, be left in the hands of your personal local host and start a walking tour of the city aimed at understanding the Hispanic-Muslim origins of the city as well as the transformations that it experienced (architecture, urban planning, social composition and overall character) in the 13th century first with the Christian conquest and later in the 18th and 19th centuries when the local wines (sherries) became probably the most fashionable drinks in the world.

Along your tour you will visit the Alcazar, which is the oldest preserved Hispanic-Muslim landmark in the city as well as its 18th century cathedral, erected in the same style of the Cathedrals erected in the new world.

Your introductory tour of Jerez will also take you to the local market. There you will understand not only the local produce that shapes the local gastronomy but also the important role that the market plays in the social fabric of the city and the important proximity resource it is for the local community. Finally, you will be taken to one of the flamenco quarters of the city. There you will be explained about the origins and evolution of this genuinely Spanish form of art which has the city of Jerez as its cradle.

1:30pm: after the tour reconnect with your driver and be transferred to a selected local restaurant for lunch, located on the road from Jerez to Cadiz.

1:50pm: arrival to the restaurant and lunch there based on local specialties.

3:10pm: end of lunch and private transfer to Cádiz along the shores of the bay of Cadiz. Explanations about the particular geography, economy, character and customs of the bay.

3:40pm: upon arrival to Cádiz, enjoy a panoramic tour of the city first aimed at understanding the peculiar geography of the city and at learning about its defensive colonial architecture.

4pm: end of your panoramic tour and private walk through the old quarters of Cadiz with a special focus on the Phoenician past of the city and on the period when it held the monopoly of all trade with the new world. Along your tour you will understand who the Phoenicians were, what brought them to Cadiz, what they brought to Cadiz and the impact that their arrival had in the culture, economy, gastronomy and wines of Southern Spain. Then you will travel forward in time to the 18th century. It was in this period when the Spanish monarchy established the monopoly of all trade with the colonies in Cadiz. This attracted many wealthy merchants from all over the world, who erected impressive bourgeois mansions, bringing at the same time a period of openness, cosmopolitism and entrepreneurship to the city.

5:30pm: end of your tour and of the services of your local host and private transfer back to Estepona with your private driver.

7pm: arrival to your accommodation in Estepona and end of services for the day.
