Description and schedule of services

15th of December: Jerez old town for food and wine lovers. Walking tour

9:30am: meet your personal local host at the lobby of your hotel (Hotel Bodega Tío Pepe) to start a private walking tour of the old town with a special focus on its Hispanic-Muslim origins and on the transformations that it experienced (architecture, urban-planning, social composition and overall character) with the Christian conquest in the 13th century and later in the 18th and 19th centuries when the local wines (sherries) became probably the most fashionable drinks in the world. Your tour will also include a private visit to the local market in order to learn about the ingredients that shape the local gastronomy and also about how Jerez has been able to preserve such an important resource for its local community.

11:20am: end of your introductory walking tour in a selected sherry bodega and private visit aimed at learning about the ageing process of the different types of sherry. This will be followed by the corresponding tastings of Sherry and by some basic notions about the art of pairing food and sherry.

12:45pm: end of the visit to the sherry bodega and short walk to a selected sherry and tapas bar.

1pm: arrival to the sherry and tapas bar and tapas and sherries lunch there. Further notions about the art of pairing food and sherry will be given through a pairing lunch including a selection of 5 – 8 dishes to share and up to 4 sherries per person.

2:45pm: end of lunch and walk back to your hotel.

3pm: arrival to your hotel and end of services for the day.

21st of December: Culture and gastronomy walking tour of Cadiz old town

9:30am: meet your personal local host at the outdoor car park of Cadiz train station to start a private walking tour of the inner parts of the old town with a special focus on the foundation of the city by the Phoenicians 3000 years ago on the period when the city held the monopoly of all trade with America. You will start this tour seeing incredibly well preserved evidences of the Phoenician past of the city. This will allow you to understand who the Phoenicians were, where they came from, why the based themselves in Cadiz 3000 years ago and the impact that their arrival had in the present history, culture, gastronomy and wines of Southern Spain.

Later, you will travel forward in time to the 18th century, when the city held the monopoly of all trade with the Americas, formerly established in Seville. The bourgeoisie that settled down in Cádiz in this period transformed the city completely into a refined and cosmopolitan colonial hub. These new inhabitants of the city brought to Cádiz not only gold, silver, mahogany and other precious materials but also new ideas that transformed the mentality of the city and later of the whole of Spain. Along this second part of the tour you will visit some selected buildings that will reveal the wealth, refinement and change of mentality that the city enjoyed in this colonial period.

11:45pm: end of your introductory walking tour in the local market of Cádiz. Explanations about the ingredients that shape the local gastronomy of Cádiz and also about the important role that the market plays in the social fabric of the city. This will be followed by some tastings of selected local produce in hand-picked stalls.

12:30pm: end of your tour of the market and small walk to a selected local tavern to learn about the famous fortified wines that traveled from Cádiz to América. Tasting of selected local fortified wines there.

1pm: end of the wine tasting and short walk to a selected family-owned and family-run tapas bar.

1:15pm: arrival to the tapas bar and tapas and wines lunch there including a selection of 6 – 9 dishes to share and up to 3 wines per person.

2:45pm: end of lunch and rest of the day at leisure. Alternatively, you may want to be escorted back to where you parked your car.

Pricing of the whole tour program

The price of this bespoke tour program for a private group of 2 people is 880 Euros in total.

Confirmation and payments

In order to confirm this tour program we require a 30% deposit of the grand total (264 Euros) no later than the 2nd of December 2021 via credit/debit card. The remaining 70% (616 Euros) must be paid no later than 7 days prior to the start of the tour program.

Final 70% to be paid no later than 7 days prior to the start of the tour program: 616 Euros

Cancellation policy
– If you cancelled your tour program more than 7 days prior to its start: we’d charge the 30% deposit only.
– If you cancelled your tour program between 7 and 5 days prior to its start: we’d charge 50% of the full cost of the tour program.
– If you cancelled your tour program between 4 and 3 days prior to its start: we’d charge 75% of the full cost of the tour program.
– If you cancelled your tour program 2 days or less prior to its start: we’d charge 100% of the full cost of the tour program.
*If the travel restrictions related to the pandemic didn’t allow for the tour program to happen, we’d give you a full refund.
**Please note that the travel restrictions we would take as official would be the ones imposed by the corresponding government/s for the general vaccinated traveler coming to Spain from your country of origin and not your specific personal circumstances.
